Educational Funding

Learning occurs in many ways. The Health Centre supports employee participation in external learning opportunities when it can - processes to access support vary from team to team and requests should be made directly with the manager. In all situations, identifying learning needs and goals is part of a performance development process. Funding opportunities may then be identified that support these goals.

The following list outlines current formal funding programs:

  • Tuition Loan Program – interest free loans to regular employees to cover tuition costs
  • Conference Presentation Award – funds to support employees and IWK trainees to present health centre research at national and international conferences
  • Clinical Program Funding – available for employees in Children’s Health, Women’s and Newborn Health and Mental Health and Addictions
  • Ruby Blois Scholarship – an academic scholarship available for graduate studies in nursing
  • Margaret Ferguson Award – funds education for nurses working in women’s and newborn health

In all situations there are specific processes for accessing funding. Employees should discuss these with the direct supervisor or manager.
