- Increased risk for aneuploidy based on maternal serum testing or NIPS
- Fetal abnormalities found on ultrasound
- Family History of a specific genetic condition
- Intrauterine Fetal Demise - see POC testing
TESTING ALGORITHM FOR FETAL GENETIC TESTING

LABORATORY REQUISITION REQUIRED
For fetal sample: Prenatal Requisition
For maternal blood sample (in lieu of maternal buccal swab accompanying the fetal sample):

- Molecular Testing section, check "Maternal Cell Contamination"
SAMPLE REQUIREMENTS

Amniotic Fluid: 30ml of fluid in sterile tubes

CVS: 25-30mcg of CVS in sterile media

Please give Genomics Laboratory advanced notice if possible

Cordocentesis:
-
1-5 ml blood in EDTA (purple top) tube for molecular testing

1-5 ml blood in sodium heparin (green top) tube for karyotyping

Maternal Samples: 3-5 ml peripheral blood in EDTA (purple top) tube
All specimens must be sent with a completed requisition. Specimen and requisition must both be labelled with the following matching identifiers:

Patient's full name (first and last)
AND -
Patient’s Health Card Number or Hospital Identification Number
Any specimens received without the appropriate requisition or identifiers may be rejected.
TURNAROUND TIME
RAD: 5 Days
Other molecular testing: 7 days
Microarray: 14 days
Cytogenetic Testing: 14 days
For pregnancies that are no longer ongoing:
RAD: 14 days
Other molecular testing: 6 weeks
Microarray: 6 weeks
Cytogenetics (Follow-up to abnormal only): 4 weeks
