Community Recreation Opportunities

Featured community-based opportunities

The following programs are being offered this season by community-based service providers who are collaborating to optimize accessible recreation opportunities for children, youth and families. Give it a try!

Swimming

Benefits of swimming:

Swimming is a great form of exercise and there are many health benefits. Exercise is essential for weight management, a healthy heart and greater energy levels. Early involvement in physical activity helps lead to life-long healthy lifestyles.

It is important for children to learn the habit of taking regular exercise early on in life and swimming can be a fun way to keep fit.

Dance

Benefits of dance:

Dance for children can teach some very important lessons, much like team sports. Dance class is able to reinforce turn-taking and cooperation with others. Since many dances involve everyone in the class, your child will also be able to learn the value of being a part of a group.

Your children learn about music, rhythm, and beat when attending dance classes. Learning about fitness, fun and friendship are all a part of developing a healthy attitude toward recreation participation.
