Learning

Learning is a cornerstone of success for the IWK.

Our close association with academic centres throughout the Maritimes and our reputation as a centre for scholarship sets a standard for excellence that is supported in many ways.

The Learning & Development service at the IWK is structured within the Department of Human Resources. The service is responsible for building organizational capacity through centre-wide learning and development programs and services.

Learning and Development team members design, deliver and coordinate educational programs that meet strategic organizational needs. The work of this service includes three core activities: service provision, strategic development, and learner placement.

Under service provision, Learning & Development offers a variety of programs and workshops. Mandatory programs such as Orientation and CPR are scheduled on a routine basis. Workshops such as Team Building, Meeting Skills, Conflict Management, Giving and Receiving Feedback, Wellness Promotion and Professional Boundaries are scheduled season-by-season and posted on the Health Centre intranet. These programs are open to all IWK employees at no charge.

Learning & Development staff are active members of the Health Centre’s support service team and are routinely engaged in committee work to advance learning as a strategic priority.
