Outpatient Blood Collection
In the event of a strike at Capital Health, the IWK's outpatient lab will remain open for blood collection during our regular hours for our normal patient population - women, children, and youth.

Please note, due to the reduction in services at Capital Health, patients and families may experience a longer wait than usual.

We will be providing updates via our website regarding wait times and other important patient information once the strike begins, so please check back there, www.iwk.nshealth.ca.

If my blood is drawn, will it be processed in a timely manner?
Every effort will be made to process all blood collected in our usual timeframes, however, there may be increased volumes and so there certainly is potential for delays of results. Blood ordered on an urgent or emergent bases will be fastracked.

Can I call to find out how long the wait is?
We will be very busy, so we would prefer that we also were not taking calls. We will be providing regular updates on our website regarding blood lab, diagnostic imaging, and emergency room wait times.

Where can I get more information?
We encourage the public to check Capital Health’s website, www.cdha.nshealth.ca, as well as our website, www.iwk.nshealth.ca, for the most up-to-date information.
