Child Life Specialists
Child life specialists are certified, trained professionals whose role is to minimize potential stress or trauma caused by events such as hospitalization, medical diagnosis and treatments.
They use play to teach children and youth what will happen and practice ways of coping.
Child Life Workers
Child life workers have experience working with children and youth and matching activities to children=s abilities and interests. They provide play programs in the health centre activity areas, the teen lounge and at the bedside.
Therapeutic Clown
Therapeutic clowns use laughter and play to help children and youth express their feelings, have control and to provide opportunities for play.
Playgarden Workers
Playgarden workers work with children and youth to provide outdoor activities in the summer months in the IWK Child Life Playgarden.
