100 Years of Care!
On December 20, 1909, the Halifax Children’s Hospital first opened its doors to children and families of the Maritimes.
After one hundred years of additions, renovations and new buildings; thousands of patients, volunteers, health professionals, staff, donors and students; revolutions in medicine, care, research and education, a lot certainly changed at the IWK and the former Children’s and Grace Maternity hospitals! What has remained constant is our commitment to excellence at all levels of care and practice.
On December 20, 2009, we celebrated the 100th anniversary of the first patient admitted to our care, revealing a magnificent legacy gift from the family of Barbara and Norman Newman which will forever mark this day, our vibrant history and our bright future.
