The IWK Family Leadership Council is pleased to present the third annual Award for Excellence in Patient and Family-Centred Care. This award recognizes an approach to care and service that makes a real difference to the quality, safety and experience for IWK patients and their families.
Initiated and designed by Family Advisors participating on the IWK Family Leadership Council, all patients, family members, staff and physicians are invited to nominate a staff member, health care provider or team who provides outstanding patient and/or family-centred care.

The core concepts of Family-Centred Care and criteria for this Award include:
• Dignity and Respect
• Information Sharing
• Participation
• Collaboration
Recipients will receive:
• An artful award chosen by patients and families of the IWK, presented at the IWK’s Annual General Meeting;
• A special Pulse blog written by members of the Family Leadership Council dedicated to explaining why they deserve the Award for Excellence in Patient and Family-Centred Care; and
• An invitation to attend a meeting of the Family Leadership Council as an honoured guest.
