The IWK is structured on a program based care model, which means that health care providers work as a team. The dietitians work with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists, speech therapists, and others to provide the best care possible for patients. As an example, a few of the teams we work with are Endocrinology and Diabetes, Mental Health, Gastroenterology, Gynaecology, and Prenatal Care.
The dietitians are considered nutrition specialists within their teams and act as a resource to professionals within the Health Centre, as well as other areas of the Maritimes.
The Clinical Nutrition team includes 17 dietitians, four diet technicians, and an administrative assistant.
