About the Therapeutic Clown Program

As part of Child Life Centrewide, Buddington the Therapeutic Clown assists children, youth and their families to cope with potential stress associated with illness, injury and health care experiences. This is accomplished through “playful and humourous interactions, opportunities for empowerment and mastery, and a supportive relationship” (Canadian Association of Therapeutic Clowns Code of Ethics).

With a commitment to family-centred care, Buddington offers children, youth, families and staff the opportunity to play and laugh in a manner that is gentle, inclusive, and sensitive to the Health Centre environment. Buddington is trained to adjust his approach according to the developmental, emotional, and physical needs and abilities of the child or youth he is interacting with.
