As of July 2010, the IWK Health Centre permanently removed toys and books from our general waiting areas to protect against the risk of spreading infection. Please click here to view Boredom Busters - Tips for Parents, a tip sheet to help make your wait easier.
We ask families with day appointments or those coming into the IWK Emergency Department to please bring their own play and comfort items. This may include a few of your child’s favourite washable toys, books, games or music (with headphones) to occupy them during their visit. Please see attached for more tips.
Inpatients are not impacted, and there will continue to be access to playrooms and books/magazines for those patients in hospital. This also does not apply to therapeutic toys or toys required for developmental assessment during ambulatory or community visits.
