The IWK Public Relations Team is responsible for maintaining strong communications leadership for the Health Centre through an effective public relations program which includes both internal and external communications.
The team offers communications advice and support to all members of the Health Centre community, including patients, families and our many partners.

For after hours emergencies requiring Public Relations, please call the IWK Switchboard at (902) 470-8888 and page the Public Relations Officer on-call.
The IWK advocates strong and consistent cooperation between the Health Centre and the media community.
All media requests must be routed through the Public Relations Department. Media requests are considered a priority and are dealt with in a timely fashion. There are legal and ethical restrictions on the extent and type of information which may be released - the rights and needs of patients and families are the Health Centre's primary concern. Many of our patients are younger than 16 years of age, thus we require parental/patient consent on any release of information. Without consent, we cannot release information.
All visiting media must be accompanied by a Public Relations or Protection Services staff member while on Health Centre property. Staff will escort media to and from the interview/event. Media will be instructed as to what they can and cannot film/photograph based on family consent and Health Centre policy which addresses family and staff confidentiality.
A Public Relations Officer is on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week to address emergency requests. For an emergency media contact during non-business hours, please call the Health Centre Switchboard at (902) 470-8888, and ask to have the PR Officer on-call paged.
