Respiratory Therapists (RTs) are licensed health care professionals. RTs are highly skilled and care for patients by evaluating, treating, and maintaining cardio-respiratory function, sometimes by using complex medical equipment. RTs are valuable members of many collaborative multi-professional health care teams. They are educated to treat all age groups; newborns, children and adults.
At the IWK Health Centre RTs provide care in these areas:
• Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
• Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
• Emergency Department
• Birth Unit : neonatal resuscitation team for high risk deliveries
• Inpatient Units
• Trauma Team Member
• Cardiac Arrest Team Member
• ECMO program
• Air Medical Transport program
• Pulmonary Function Testing clinic
