We are the pediatric Diabetes Centre that serves Halifax and surrounding areas.
We provide initial assessment and teaching for children and adolescents with type 1 and type 2 diabetes and their families. We also provide our patients with on-going follow-up care and education. Our service encourages and enables patients and families to move toward self care.
In addition, we work with other community agencies to provide comprehensive diabetes care for children in the Halifax area and consultative care for the province of Nova Scotia.
What is diabetes?
When a person has diabetes, his or her body cannot make its own insulin or is unable to effectively use the insulin it produces. This results in high sugar levels in the blood.
