Family Leadership Council - Overview

Thank you for your interest in the IWK Health Centre’s Family Leadership Council (FLC). Family Advisors play an active role in providing the patient and family perspective to leadership and staff at the IWK Health Centre. They influence and help shape decisions about hospital policies, programs and facility design.

The IWK Family Leadership Council is a partnership of patients, family members, administration, staff and physicians from across the IWK.

Goals of the Family Leadership Council: 

  • Ensure that IWK Health Centre services meet the needs of women, children, youth and families. 
  • Serve as a resource to receive input from patients/families who use the IWK and to channel suggestions in a positive direction. 
  • Serve as a resource to the institution. 
  • Increase understanding and collaboration between patients/families and hospital administration, staff and physicians. 
  • Keep the philosophy of patient- and family-centred care in the forefront of all efforts. 
  • Be part of the process to improve the quality and safety of IWK care and services.

Reporting Structure: 

  • Responsible to the IWK’s Executive Leadership Team. 
  • The IWK Family Advisory Council reports through the Patient and Family Centred Care Office to the IWK Executive Leadership Team and Board of Directors on a quarterly basis.

Patients and Families are essential partners in the IWK’s mission to make a difference in the health and well being of women, children, youth and families.
